We load this one for precision. It’s based on the load that Phillip Hemphill used to win the National Police Shooting Championship 10 times.

This load offers meat-and-potatoes .38 Special ballistics. It updates his custom competition handload with a poly-coat semi-wadcutter bullet at slightly lower pressures. The poly coat bullet also creates less smoke for you to breathe, it’s safe most on indoor ranges, and it fouls less, so cleanup is easier.

Mr. Hemphill’s record proves that this load is extremely accurate for 25- and 50-yard match shooting. Its accuracy also makes it ideal for target shooting and training, plus it has a flat nose that makes it an excellent choice for building skill by hunting small game. It’s too light for deer, but otherwise it’s a superb all-around choice for small-and medium-frame .38 Special revolvers.
